Cheshire Plain Flyers
We are a small friendly model aircraft club, flying electric models at sites in Timperley a few miles south of Manchester.
WHAT DO WE FLY?
Just about anything, except internal combustion engines. Because we fly on the edge of a large area of housing we can only fly electric powered models and gliders. This does not mean that we fly underpowered, small, slow models. Some members fly aerobatic models of up to two metres wingspan that can take off in less than 10 metres, point their noses vertically upwards and accelerate to a dot in the clouds, while others fly "hotliners" that can hurtle into the far distance in a few seconds or do a low pass at three-figure speeds. But most members prefer less spectacular aerobatics with smaller models, cruising above the field with scale models or searching for lift with powered gliders.
Through the year we run some low-key competitions, notably a fly-for-fun that is run on the first Sunday in the month. This is a light-hearted competitions designed for the average club flyer. During the year we also run a comp for towline-launched thermal gliders and another for slope soarers as well as one for electric-powered gliders.
WHERE DO WE FLY?
We are lucky enough to be able to fly on the training ground of Football League One team Stockport County, who are kind enough to allow us to fly off the beautifully maintained training grassland when they are not using it, so we have well mown well drained grass to fly from and tarmac to park on, right at the edge of the grass.. The ground is on Ridgeway Road, Timperley, Altrincham WA15 7HD. We also have the use of a field at the nearby Bowdon Rugby Club.
Our main flying session is Sunday afternoon, but we can also fly on Saturday afternoons if the field is free. During the summer we also fly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. With all these flying times please check before turning up to avoid possible disappointment.
